SekakuoroKulkuset was founded in the aftermath of the Finnish independencein January 1918. It is one of the oldest mixed choirs in Finland. The choircomprises the main choir, a senior choir, a small chamber choir, EnsembleVivere, and several smaller groups. Altogether there are more than a hundredsingers in Kulkuset.
Kulkuset has been fortunate in having choirmasters who have stayed with thechoir for a longer period of time. Under their conductorships the choir hasdeveloped steadily in all the fields of choral singing. As of autumn 2014 HeidiGräsbeck has conducted the choir and she has already added many valuableskills to the choir’s abilities. Performing mainly a cappella the choir has a versatile repertoire. Finnishmusic has, of course, always been very important for the choir, but therepertoire draws from many different sources and today includes material fromearly music to contemporary compositions. The choir has also commissionedcompositions and arrangements from many contemporary Finnish composers.
Kulkuset is an active and forward-moving choir. The choir gives concerts atvenues both in Finland and abroad, and regularly participates in musicfestivals and competitions. Kulkuset is a very ambitious choir striving to make every performance count. No song is worth singing if it does not touch the heart of the one who listens aswell as the heart of the singer.
