COR DE NOIES DE SANT ESTEVE DE VILA-SECA

Founded in 1974, the Cor Sant Esteve represents a story based on the love of music. The year when the choir was founded is also the year when all the village kids started to receive music lessons, thanks to the city council’s iniciative. Four years later, when the Professional Conservatoire of Vila-seca is created, the Cor Sant Esteve has already become a choir with national and international prestige.

From those times onwards the choir has steadily maintained its activity. Throughout the forty years following its foundation, the Cor Sant Esteve has kept its loving commitment to music, which Vila-seca had fostered during the seventies. Having performed hundreds of vocal works, cooperating with several orchestras and conductors and participating in numerous live music projects, the choir has always been a unique learning opportunity for the children of the Conservatoire, as well as those of the town and the nearby area.

Nowadays, the choir is made up of thirty boys and girls, most of whom study at the Conservatoire of Vila-seca. Apart from their academic background, which includes note reading and instrument lessons, these children work with the conductor of the choir, Charo García (former member of the choir), and also with its artistic director, Xavier Pastrana (former student of the Conservatoire), in order to address music covering any period or style but mainly focused on the music of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries.

Therefore, not only is the choir a current reality, but also a testament to the history of the Conservatoire. The love for the music of the past, present and future.
