The Gaia Youth Choir (Cor Juvenil Gaia) was created in 2003 on the initiative of Mercè Valls, director of “Harmonia” music school from Olot. It is currently a member of the Catalan Federation of Choirs and has been collaborating with UNICEF. It was initially conducted by Joan Asin. In 2009 Edgar Bassiana took over as conductor. Since 2013 it has been back in the hands of Joan Asin.
The Gaia Choir (Coral Gaia) has participated in several concerts around Catalonia at charity events and collaborations with schools and organizations. The most relevant events it has taken part in are the following:
On 1st October 2006, the choir sang in the Carmina Burana concert at the Girona Auditorium and Conference Center, under the direction of J.A. Sainz Alfaro.
On 22nd June 2008 the choir was invited to sing at the Palau de la Música Catalana, on the occasion of the 1st. Youth and Children’s Choral Festival of Catalonia, out of competition.
In March 2008, commemorating the 5th anniversary of its foundation, the choir performed a music-cultural exchange with Domino Choir of Opava, in the Czech Republic.
On 3rd July 2009 the choir participated in the Fauré Requiem concert at the Girona Auditorium and Conference Center, conducted by John Rutter.
On 15th November 2014 it took part in the Participatory Concert “The Musical” at the Vic auditorium “Atlantida”, together with the Vallès Symphonic Orchestra.
On 2nd April 2016 it participated in the St. Matthew Passion concert at the Palau de la Música Catalana with other choirs, soloists and the Vallès Symphonic Orchestra, conducted by Xavier Puig.
Since its inception, the Gaia Choir has participated in events with well-known conductors and artists such: Elisenda Carrasco, J.A. Sainz Alfaro, John Rutter and the "therapy in company" project by the music band “Teràpia de Shock”.
The latest projects that the Gaia Choir has created and performed on stage are the two concertshows called “Wait in line” (2015) and “Black is not enough” (2016).
COR JUVENIL GAIA
L'any 2003, per iniciativa de Mercè Valls, directora d'Harmonia Escola de Música, neix el Cor Juvenil Gaia a Olot. Actualment és membre de la Federació Catalana d'Entitats Corals i ha estat col·laboradora d'Unicef. La direcció, fins l'any 2009, va anar a càrrec de Joan Asin. Posteriorment la direcció va ser assumida per Edgar Bassiana, i des del 2013 torna a estar en mans de Joan Asin. La Coral Gaia, a més de participar en concerts per diversos indrets de Catalunya, en concerts benèfics i en col·laboracions amb centres o entitats, ha participat, com a més destacables en els següents esdeveniments:
L’ 1 d'octubre de 2006 cantar en el concert de l'obra Carmina Burana a l'Auditori Palau de Congressos de Girona, sota la direcció de J.A. Sainz Alfaro.
El 22 de juny de 2008 la coral va estar convidada a cantar al Palau de la Música Catalana, fora de concurs, en motiu del 1er. Festival de cant coral infantil juvenil de Catalunya.
El març de 2008, en commemoració del 5è aniversari de la seva fundació, el cor realitzà un intercanvi musico-cultural amb la Coral Domino d'Opava de la República Txeca.
El 3 de juliol de 2009 participa en el concert del Requiem de Fauré a l'Auditori Palau de Congressos de Girona, sota la direcció de John Rutter.
El 15 de novembre de 2014 participa en el Concert Participatiu El Musical a l'Atlàntida de Vic junt amb l'Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès.
El 2 d'abril de 2016 participa en el Palau de la Música Catalana en el concert de la Passió segons Sant Mateu junt amb altres cors, solistes i l’ Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès, sota la direcció de Xavier Puig.
Al llarg de la serva trajectòria, ha treballat amb directors de renom com Elisenda Carrasco, J.A. Sainz Alfaro, John Rutter i en el projecte "Teràpia en companyia" de Teràpia de Shock.
Els últims projectes que la coral Gaia ha creat i portat a escenai són els dos concerts- espectacle anomenats “Wait in line” (2015) i “Black is not enough” (2016).
